Tiger lilies are so gorgeous! I have a vase of them on the kitchen counter. Each day another blossom opens. They seem to respond with vigour when I remove the spent blossoms. Yesterday I had scissors in hand ready to nip off a blossom which was misshapen and appeared past its prime when my hand stopped halfway to the snip. Wait a minute: its too far up on the stem to be dying. The buds around it and even some under it are all opening. When I look closer it was not closing in, it was trying to open and had been caught by another blossom causing the disfigurement. When I released the single petal which had been trying to open, it sprang into a normal formation. I went about making my breakfast. Before long, other petals which had been tightly closed on the same blossom had joined the opening. Within little over 1 hour the entire blossom was fully open and most gorgeous. I got to watch a miracle unfold.
How many others do I miss when I am not paying attention? Another precious mindfulness moment!
Life with a child is full of them.
